Permacultura America Latina Ecuador

PAL began its activities in South America with its first projects in Ecuador in 1989. In the Andes a bilingual education school was created in Cayambe and on the coast in San Lorenzo a series of community programs were developed around the nucleus of a permaculture farm model which has since become a regionally important seed bank. In the Amazon work with the Huaorani has been the subject of a prize winning book and numerous articles in magazines such as the New Yorker. Our students have been the recipients of the Rolex Award and numerous Community Service awards.

Permacultura America Latina Peru
PAL began working with the Shipibo in early 1995 in the Ucayali region of the Peruvian Amazon. A village development program resulted in the construction of five wells, a womens sewing and kitchen cooperative and an agroforestry system. Working with indigenous fishermen we pioneered the development of the Shipibo aquaculture model.
Paititi Institute
The Paititi Institute for the Preservation of Ecology and Indigenous Culture is a nonprofit organization devoted to the integration of indigenous wisdom into every day life.

Maya Mountain Research Farm
Tucked into the foothills of the Maya Mountains, two miles up river from the village of San Pedro Columbia in southern Belize, Maya Mountain Research Farm is a registered non-governmental organization and working demonstration farm that promotes sustainable agriculture, appropriate technology and food security using permacultural principles and applied biodiversity. With over 20 years of work, Maya Mountain Research Farm is one of the oldest ongoing permaculture projects in Central America.
We cultivate hundreds of species at MMRF in our established agro-forestry system, a lush, productive tropical food forest. We are building and fine-tuning an agro-ecological system that conserves natural resources, and supports the surrounding ecosystem in providing valuable ecological services such as carbon sequestration, soil and water retention, and the creation of wildlife habitat.

The Permaculture Institute of El Salvador (IPES) was founded as an independent organization in 2002 by small farmers concerned to halt the destruction of their environment and way of life. Over the past 6 years, we have built a network of subsistence farmers who work with ecological farming methods. We have a training centre and 4 demonstration permaculture sites, the most important of which is the ecological community La Florida in the La Libertad department. Our aim is to train community leaders within poor rural areas to enable them to tackle the environmental crises that face them.

Permacultura America Latina  Guatemala
Our work in Guatemala began in 1995, in and around San Lucas Toliman in the country’s central highlands. Early support led to a profitable fair trade program for 300 indigenous organic coffee growers. Building on this achievement, numerous other small cooperative projects were initiated, among them work with orphaned children and local women. Our rapidly growing mission led to the formation of the Institute of MesoAmerican Permaculture (IMAP) in 2000, and a beautiful parcel of land was purchased on the shores of Lake Atitlan, becoming the new, permaculture reference center.

The ITT is a project carried out by the Group to Promote Education and Sustainable Development (GRUPEDSAC), a Mexican non-profit organization dedicated to providing sustainable solutions, mainly through appropriate technologies for rural communities. The ITT ("Mother Earth" in Náhuatl) was born out of the conviction that a new vision is necessary to accomplish positive change in the Mexican countryside, a vision inspired in stewardship of all that is sacred in Nature and in human beings.

Tierra del Sol is a Permaculture farm and sustainable-living center located in Tlacochahuaya, within the central valleys of Oaxaca, Mexico.

The site was designed based on the principles of permaculture and one of our primary goals is to experiment and promote sustainable living alternatives. Our farm and learning center is located 20 kilometers (about 12.4 miles) to the east of Oaxaca city en the outskirts of Tlacochahuaya.Pablo Ruiz Lavalle -   cel 951 151 6769

Cape Eleuthera Institute
Natural resources have been the foundation of economic development in The Bahamas for hundreds of years. In the 19th and early 20th century, agriculture prospered, especially on islands such as Eleuthera, because of a favorable climate and red lateritic soils that allowed large-scale production of crops such as pineapple, vegetables, and grains. In fact, the island of Eleuthera was a major supplier of pineapple to the United States until Hawaii became a U.S. territory in 1900. Unfortunately, changes in market demand, in combination with intensive growing practices reducing the land’s ability to sustain agriculture at a commercial scale, eventually relegated agriculture to small-scale operations that only support local demands and subsistence living. These trends in production have resulted in a large percentage of the food available in The Bahamas being imported from other countries, which has increased food prices and influenced diets. Moreover, even small-scale agriculture is dependent upon chemical fertilizers and pesticides that are costly and have significant environmental and human health risks.
